Schöner leben ohne Nazis 2020 - Better life without Nazis 2020
am Ort der Vielfalt Marzahn-Hellersdorf
On September 5, 2020, the Democracy Festival "Schöner leben ohne Nazis" will take place for the twelfth time on Alice Salomon Square.
"Schöner leben ohne Nazis" was first held 12 years ago, initiated by various parties and associations. Since then, the network has expanded steadily. This year, a total of over 40 institutions, mostly from the district, will participate on stage or at stands.
Considering the current election results, the nationalistic and racist tendencies especially in our district, it is all the more remarkable that this event lives from a broad honorary engagement and is organized and realized with much love from citizens:inside this district.
At "Schöner leben ohne Nazis am Ort der Vielfalt Marzahn-Hellersdorf", various democratic actors (e.g. associations, initiatives, parties, offices, trade unions, religious communities) resident in the district present themselves, who have actively committed themselves to the goal of jointly setting a visible sign against exclusion, right-wing extremism and any form of group-related misanthropy.
At the festival the actors will present themselves with information stands and activities for people of all ages. There will be games and handicrafts for the little ones, quizzes and sports for young people, information and exhibitions for the elderly.
Corona-related measures
Everybody knows that this year special measures are required for the realization of events. We, too, have been thinking about how we can ensure that everyone can stay healthy and that we can comply with the requirements of the Corona Ordinance.
That is why the following applies on the premises:
- Access control - To ensure that not too many people are on the site at the same time, access is only possible via 3 entrances. The contact data must also be stored there, which we keep for 16 days and then destroy. Exclusively in case of an infection, we pass on this contact list to the public health department. The registration is done either via a sheet or via a QR code. After successful registration you will receive an admission wristband which must be worn for the duration of your stay.
- Keep your distance - Wherever possible, keep your distance. Especially at the booths it can get tight.
- Mask obligation - You must wear a mask during the entire event.
- Washing hands and disinfecting - The rental toilets are equipped with water, soap and disinfectant. Use them. There are additional dispensers at the entrances.
This is music that inspires not only the little ones, but also the grown-ups. The little ones are happy about the content - there are fabulous animal stories (e.g. Flori, Polar Bear, A Fish), rebellious criticism of annoying adults (e.g. Tired, BlaBlaBla) and also funny mind games about what Santa Claus is doing the rest of the year. The big ones find themselves in the music, which is dominated by ska, rocksteady and earthy reggae. You'll be happy to put up with the endless loop in the children's room, if you have something to shake your butt about as well!
Ben Pavlidis, singer and songwriter of the Berlin band Ohrbooten, has been writing various children's songs together with his little daughter for a few years now. Many of the characters, themes and stories that were directly transformed into catchy songs by their father are due to their childlike imagination. She and a whole horde of other children can of course also be heard on the album. D!E GÄNG was completed by the participation of Ohrboote, Bummelkasten, Sissi Perlinger and Johnny Strange - the latter gives the holiday-ripe Santa Claus his voice. And a few radical gummi bears also have their say, rapping about the oppression of their endangered species. The little ones and grown-ups alternately smile and marvel at listening. And when the polar bear invites his friends to watch a movie in his igloo or the snail returns the love of Flori to the frog, it even becomes really heartwarming.
D!E GÄNG is essentially generation-spanning and the response at live concerts is enormous. Children and parents celebrate each other, there is a lot of laughing, romping and cheeky rapping. Here, everyone meets at eye level and a deep feeling of solidarity develops.
A lot of fun is guaranteed with this collection of cheeky children's songs, easy skanking included!
The Gonçalo Mortágua Trio is a three-man group consisting of bass (Daigo Nakai), drums (Ria Rother) and saxophone (Gonçalo Mortágua). All its members have studied jazz as bachelor in three different countries. The trio was born on the streets of Berlin and plays standards of the great American Songbook, ordered by instrumentation.
Soft and versatile, dynamic and captivating, this trio offers a delightful musical adventure.
"La Gecko" is a Chilean multidisciplinary band from Chile. Currently the musical duo, which consists of bassist and multi-instrumentalist Cristián Mac Donad (guitar) and singer and violinist Alondra Coppola (vocals), lives in Germany. Both play a composition of their own songs as well as some covers and musical arrangements for iconic versions of the popular and folkloric Hispanic song.
The exhibition "Umbruch Ost. Lebenswelten im Wandel" (Eastern upheaval. Lifeworlds in change) is dedicated to the everyday life of German unity since 1990. 20 panels of the exhibition are available as a poster set in DIN A1 format for historical-political education. On the exhibition panels, QR codes link to contemporary witness interviews of the NDR. Three supplementary panels of the online portal Statista present the most important facts and figures on the developments since 1990. The show focuses on the experiences of the East Germans in the process of change. Their living environments had changed fundamentally with the reunification on October 3, 1990. The author of the exhibition is the historian and publicist Stefan Wolle. It is edited by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED dictatorship and the Federal Government Commissioner for the New Federal States.
The exhibition "Von der friedlichen Revolution zur Deutschen Einheit" (From the Peaceful Revolution to German Unity) highlights the years 1989/90, recalling the protest against the falsification of the GDR local elections, the flight movement in the summer and the mass protests in the fall that brought the SED dictatorship to its knees. It reports on the self-democratization of the GDR, on German-German solidarity and the foreign policy course set until the regaining of German unity.
The show comprises 20 panels, which are available as a poster set in DIN A1 format. It presents over 100 contemporary historical photos and documents. QR codes link to 18 video interviews with actors of the Peaceful Revolution, which can be found at zeitzeugen-portal.de.
The exhibition is published by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED dictatorship and the Federal Government Commissioner for the New Federal States. Its author and curator is the Berlin historian Dr. Ulrich Mählert, who heads the Science Division of the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship. The exhibition is a new edition of a 2009 exhibition of the same name, which has been fundamentally revised in terms of design and image selection.

Democracy is not a foregone conclusion. Democracy must be socially experienced, learned and reflected upon. On this occasion, we invite all interested parties to come and talk to us:
What is racism? How and where is Berlin changing through new immigration and densification? How can we take the wind out of the sails of populist slogans in everyday life and at work?
With a quiz and various information materials, we would like to invite you to an interactive dialogue on these questions.
The Hellersdorfer Promenade neighborhood management will be present with a booth and will inform residents and visitors of the festival about the upcoming district council elections next year. What does it mean to be active in the district council? What opportunities are there for participation in the neighborhood? We will show a short information film and talk to the visitors. For example, about favorite places in the neighborhood.
It will also be interactive, with a photo action entitled Stay Home, artist Carola Rümper shows how the 'roaring deer' comes to the Hellersdorf Promenade. "Create your own Promenade scenery, take a photo with your cell phone and share it with your friends.
We produce a multilingual radio program every week in a shared accommodation for refugees together with residents and supporters. It deals with topics like job and housing search, women's projects, traditions, everyday racism, asylum policy, ... But of course also about music from many different countries. In autumn we will organize workshops where you can learn to produce your own radio reports. When, where and how you can find out at our stand, also in Arabic, Farsi, English and French.

We would like to do a little "opinion and idea survey" at the event for a "nicer", safe and clean neighborhood. With our handcart, which also serves as a work table and is equipped with polystyrene plates and a map, visitors* can write down positive, negative and their ideas on flags and place them on the map. We would like to use this opportunity to encourage the people who come up with ideas to take part in the "Stammtisch grün" and to promote and implement their ideas together.
